A Few Small Projects
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009I had the itch to do a little organizing around the house. I mean really little. First, the boys and I tore apart their closet and toy box and sorted things by catagory. Then we purchased a few small bins, labeled them, and attached an appropriate picture to each bin. We keep them on the shelf in their closet in order to keep them from dumping out more than one box at a time. Three weeks and going strong. The boys appreciate their toys more when they are the ones who organize them and take care of them.
Next I attacked my laundry room (aka, the garage, so it’s more like my “laundry area”) There were these awful dark green curtains hung from a gold rod and the curtains were full length, but were hung like a valance so the excess was just piled on the shelf where my detergents are kept. It’s all been there since we moved in three years ago. Last night I stumbled upon a blogger who had organized her laundry room over the weekend and it was very inspiring.
All I did was make a valance from some fabric I already had and some coordinating pom-pom trim for the bottom. Simple and cute. Since my laundry area is in the garage where there are unfinished walls and it already looks pretty crappy, I figured there was NOTHING I could do to make it any worse. Out came the paint brush and acrylic paint. With black paint, I painted the word “LAUNDRY” down the side of wall by the window and then painted a big “W” (for our last name) in the center of the wall above the valance. On top of that, I simply wiped down my washer and dryer, threw away some empty bottles, and voila! Good as new…or at least better than before!
Hope I inspired you to take on a few projects around the house that you’ve been putting off but would really like to attack! Go for it!
